- 'Good' Ofsted Report 2023 - Moorside Primary School and Nursery

Medical Matters

The school works closely with the Healthy Child Team. Every pupil is screened for vision, hearing and general growth in their Reception year. Parents may contact the health team through Mrs Price at school at any time to discuss concerns they may have about their child’s health and development.

Administering Medication in School

Medication should only be taken at school when it is essential and where not to do so would be detrimental to a child’s health.

Whenever possible medication should be taken at home. Parents and carers should seek advice from their medical practitioner on this matter.

In order for children to have medication administrated at school the following must be in place:

  • Parents/Carers must complete a written agreement and consent form.
  • Only medication prescribed by a doctor, dentist, nurse prescriber of pharmacist prescriber can be administered.
  • Non-prescribed medication will only be administered if it is part of a child’s health care plan.
  • Aspirin and ibuprofen should never be administered to a child under 16 unless they are prescribed.
  • Staff administering medication as part of an Educational Health Care Plan will be trained to ensure all documentation is accurately completed and medication is stored correctly. The school will keep records of training.
  • Children will only be able to self administer medication when is part of their health care plan and has been agreed by health care professionals and parents.
